Meaghan McCarthy – Workshop Facilitator

 Education:
– Bachelor of Education with French – Mary Immaculate College
*Relevant modules included Teaching Pedagogy, Teaching Practice, Psychology of
Education, Sociology and Philosophy of Education, Teaching Through the Medium of Irish
(Elective Course)

Career:
Meaghan has worked as a primary school teacher in Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann, in East
Cork, for the last ten years. During this decade, she has seen the challenges that arise in
schools as a result of bullying. When a pupil is bullied by classmates, either in a school or
outside of school, there are consequences for pupils, teachers and families.

S.P.H.E is one of her favourite subjects to teach. Meaghan understands that by exploring
and modelling effective conflict resolution strategies a positive school environment can be
created. She is very familiar with the primary school curriculum objectives based on
bullying, that need to be covered at each level.

Meaghan loves languages. She has a particular grá for the Irish language. After many
years of teaching in a Gaelscoil, she can converse, teach and present in Irish competently
and confidently.

No stranger to the stage, Meaghan has received a gold medal in a grade 8 acting exam and
a grade 8 speaking of verse and prose exam. The preparation for these exams, combined
with the experience Meaghan has gained from performing in plays has helped her deliver
engaging lessons in the classroom.
